I can’t imagine how we were able handle calling out a teammate and refer to almost all of them but was able to respond accordingly. hehe
LFC Women’s team has defended the title as Champs of the 2nd Inter corporate football cup. The other corporate teams that battled for the title were WesternWats and PeopleSupport and one guest team, SRFC, showed up to join the fun. Guest team’s play did not affect team standings but they had to battle for the 3rd place. Finals ended between PPS and LFC. This reminded me of last year’s victory over PPS. But their team was a surprise to us. They had varsity players lined up that included a forward and a GK.
Moments of the game
LFC did great in the elimination, with PPS, we were doing great job until the referee gave out a call that was supposed to be against PPS, but was called out against us – handball inside the GK’s ring! Imagine that? Maddie had to face the pressure by herself…and bang! It went in…we never recovered because of our frustration over the ref’s call. We did not choose to loose just because of that, the team redeemed that frustration having won over WW, 1-0 courtesy of Ping.
And so finals came. We got frustrated again that at middle of scrambling on PPS goal area, the referee did not call in “goal” when the ball came in the line and was bounced back. It did not touch the net so no movement caused the ref to call it in. The game ended with 0-0 and officials opted for the sudden death shoot-out. At first 3 best kickers were lined up each team for the shoot-out. I assumed GK post at this point. First, kicker of PPS came through me and the rest I blocked out in frustration of that 1 goal. My kick also came through their keeper. Score still was draw, 1-1. Other players were allowed to kick also until PPS ran out of kicker so teams agreed to have each team, 1 kicker. PPS chose to have the first kicker who got through me vs. me and their keeper vs. me. It was quite a show for me, but the pressure was too much I feel like I’m going to burst into tears. Then rain came…drama kaau! It was my turn to kick, I took all the time I had, looking closely at the ball, and kicked it as hard as I can, it slipped between the keeper’s flying hands – GOAL! Then my excitement died out after realizing I had to defend the goal from their powerful kicker. I learned one tactic on that situation. The first kick came through because I was looking on the player, and her eyes, that was mistake #1. The whole time after that I decided to look at nothing but ONLY the ball. Eyes could fool you. Without any anticipation as to where the ball would go… she kicked it and bounced on the BAR! Score LFC 2-1, we WON! It was not how I expected. I guess God shoved it off so the ball would hit the bar.
It was some game… now I know why they call it – sudden death shoot-out. Whew!
